Amazon Prime going up to £109/year from May - worth keeping?

Amazon just announced Prime is increasing from £95 to **£109 per year** (or £9.49/month up from £8.99) starting May 1st. That's a 15% increase. They say it's due to "continued investment in Prime benefits" but let's be honest, it's because they can. Got me thinking — is it still worth it? Here's what you actually get: - Free next-day delivery (on eligible items) - Prime Video (increasingly mid compared to Netflix/Disney+) - Prime Music (very limited without Unlimited) - Prime Reading (meh) - Prime Gaming (occasional free game) For me the delivery alone probably justifies it since I order 2-3 times a month. But I know people who barely use it. Anyone planning to cancel? Or is it still a no-brainer for you?

I did the maths on my account last year — I placed 47 orders. Without Prime that would have been about £4-5 delivery per order, so roughly £200+ in delivery fees. Prime at £109 still saves me nearly £100/year on delivery alone. Prime Video is a nice bonus but honestly I'd pay for delivery alone. The same-day delivery on Prime has saved me multiple times when I've forgotten birthday presents 😬

Hot tip: if you're on Universal Credit, PIP, or other qualifying benefits, Amazon does a **discounted Prime at £4.99/month**. A lot of people don't know about this. My mum saved £50/year switching to it. Also students get **Prime Student at £4.49/month** which is an incredible deal. My daughter uses it for the free next-day delivery on textbooks alone.

I cancelled last year and honestly haven't missed it. Here's why: 1. Most things on Amazon aren't actually the cheapest — I price check everything now 2. Free delivery over £25 still exists without Prime 3. I batch my orders instead of impulse buying one item at a time 4. Switched to Disney+ which is better value for streaming I reckon I've actually **saved money** since cancelling because I buy less random stuff. The convenience of one-click ordering was costing me more than the subscription itself.

Something people forget — you can **share Prime with one other adult** in your household for free. So it's really £54.50 each if you split it. At that price it's a complete no-brainer. Set up an Amazon Household and both of you get free delivery, Prime Video, the lot.

The real question is when will they start putting ads on Prime Video unless you pay extra? Netflix and Disney+ already did it. Amazon has already started with "limited ads" in the US. If they add a £3/month ad-free tier on top of the £109, I'm out. There's a limit to how much nickel-and-diming I'll accept.
